After a gentle walk at Southern Down, Vale of Glamorgan, this September, I sat on a hill overlooking the breathtaking Dunraven Bay and the words of this song began to form. I quickly scribbled them into my notebook, and by the time I had walked down through the bracken and hedgerows, the words had taken on a melody.

Just a few weeks later, I learn't to play a basic Travis picking style on my guitar via musician and teacher Shemi Jones. It fitted the song so well, the rhythm of the picking rolled like the waves of the sea.

Happy coincidence and a helping hand from a poet friend, saw me heading over to Shabbey Road Studios, Caerphilly to put the song down. I worked on the composition of the song before I got into the studio and practiced as much as I could, I would've been happy to walk away with a guide track, in the time we had. After a very warm welcome from the Shabbey Road Team, Al Steele and Ceri, a few hours later, I left the recording studio with this beautiful song Dunraven Bay.

Recording with multi instrumentalist Al steel was a joy, given the time we had and my style of playing, we went for a live organic feel to the track. Al mic'd up my vocals and guitar, and we recorded them together as one track, as a singer songwriter I felt comfortable with this, although it took me a few goes. I was delighted to have the chance to use my new Faith Naked Venus guitar, from Cardiff Guitars in a studio setting.

Percussionist Andy Constable, added a clay bodied Tabla, that drives the song all the way though, with an undulating beat, like the ebb and flow of the sea.

As the track came together, the incredibly talented Al Steele, opened it up, by laying down a beautiful piano and bass accompaniment, that weaves in and out of the song, adding to the emotion and the musical seascape, I hope the song captures. During the recording I was moved to tears by the beauty of Al's piano playing, although with his warm humour he quickly had me smiling again.

It was a heartwarming experience to record this song, with Andy and Al, and I'm looking forward to going back to do more.

Thank you so much for listening and supporting our making music, I hope this song moves you as much as it did me, when it emerged at Dunraven Bay. Please share if you can, and help us on our way to making the EP 'Our Places'

My many thanks to Andy Constable, for his enduring support and percussion, to Al Steele and his lovely partner Ceri, and to everyone who's been part of this wondeful musical journey.

Dunraven Bay

The Rosehips is bursting
first leaves is starting to fall
but I'm feeling sleepy
sleep brings the answers to all

The first time we met here we said,
the waves would not break us,
and now we come back and these storms of life
they have shaken
they have shaken

life has shaken us.

The Kestrel she swoops
and she hovers on the cliffs at Dunraven Bay
but I'm like a spring tide,
I rise so high and then I fall.

The first time we met here we said,
the waves would not break us,
and now we come back and the storms of love
they have shaken
they have shaken

love has shaken us.

He looked me in the eye and said girl
you know we've still got time to dream
come take my hand and we'll
lie by the light of this blood moon.

The first time we met here we said,
the waves would not break us,
and now we come back and the storms of life and love
have shaken
oh they have shaken

but life's not broken us
life's not broken us
life's not broke

Oh let these waves wash over us. x 3
